PPE Regulation EU 2016/425

The PPE Regulation EU 2016/425 sets out the requirements for the design and production of Personal Protective Equipment. This regulation replaced PPE Directive 89/686/EEC and came into force in 2018. The transition period ended in April 2019 which means that manufacturers are no longer allowed to produce or sell PPE unless they meet the new regulation 2016/425.

EN ISO 20471:2013 + A1:2016

EN ISO 20471 applies to high-visibility clothing that is meant to be used in high-risk situations day and night.

The standard specifies the performance requirements of the conspicuous material to be used in “high visibility clothing” and defines minimum areas as well as placement of the materials. Conspicuity is enhanced by a high contrast between the clothing and the ambient background against which it is seen; and by larger areas of the conspicuous materials specified.

EN 17353

EN 17353 applies to enhanced visibility clothing and equipment for medium-risk situations.

It is a harmonized EU standard that was approved in 2020. Although EN1150 and EN13356 are still valid during the transition to the new standard, most new products entering the market should now be tested in accordance with EN 17353. For more details, please contact us.

EN 13688:2013

EN 13688 sets out the general performance requirements for Protective Clothing and is always used in combination with EN17353.

EN1150

EN 1150 has been replaced by EN 17353. It used to define the performance requirements for protective clothing for non-professional use. It defined minimum areas as well as positioning and placement of materials to achieve enhanced conspicuity against most background conditions found in urban and rural situations both day and night. The area of material is dependant on the size of the wearer and conspicuity is enhanced by high contrast between the garment and the ambient background.

This Standard was not intended to comply with the requirements of clothing used by professionals - for professional use EN20471 still applies.

EN13356

EN 13356 has been replaced by EN 17353. It used to define the performance requirements for visibility accessories for non-professional use.

Products covered by this standard were to be understood as aids to conspicuity in low light conditions. On lit/bright urban roads, products conforming to EN20471 or EN17353 are necessary to provide conspicuity. In any circumstance in which the failure of a vehicle driver to become aware of another road user could result in serious injury or death of that road user, only high conspicuity garments can be recommended for use.

EMC Directive

Whenever a product contains a battery, EMC testing will be required. In most cases, it is also required to undergo RoHS testing.

ANSI/ISEA-107-2004

The ANSI/ISEA 107-2004 standard continues to be the governing standard regarding the safety of employees exposed to public vehicular traffic. The 2004 changes affected three areas: class/performance designation, qualification of materials and the new certification program. The primary difference compared to the previous ANSI/ISEA-107 is the establishment of performance levels. There are three distinct performance levels:

Performance Level 1 (CLASS 1) Typical
Performance Level 2 (CLASS 2) Typical
Performance Level 3 (CLASS 3) Typical

All Ningbo Beta ANSI vests meet the requirements of either Class 2 or Class 3.

Phthalates

Most PVC contains Phthalates because they make the material softer. Especially for recycled plastic, it might be necessary to add Phthalates.

However, Phthalate is dangerous to human skin by touch. Our factory can supply Phthalate-free material - a TÜV Rheinland certificate can be provided.

PAHs

PAHs are a class of chemicals that are often found in plastics and in PVC. It is not allowed to import any products that contain PAHs into Germany. For other European countries, the REACH regulation applies.

Custom Print

Can reflective products be personalised with a logo?

Yes, it is possible to add a custom print, however the logo size needs to be discussed beforehand - adding a very large logo might cover too much reflective or fluorescent area and can in turn influence whether the product can still meet a specific standard.

Although we understand that graphic designers mainly focus on the appearance of a logo, it is our responsibility to analyse your design from a technical viewpoint. We kindly ask you to consult with us before finalising your artwork.

Accepted files

We prefer PDF, AI or CDR as vector images have layers and can be printed very well. If this is not possible, we also accept a high-quality PNG or JPG file.
